Favorite books

Below are a collection of my favorite books (some a little outside the box) that either have some great life lessons or they really make you think. We are an Amazon affiliate, so please help support our blog and start your online comparison shopping with them.

Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen

A little out of the norm for what I typically read, but it is a great book about several cultures that just run, run, run. It teaches you to think outside the conventional norms of what our society has come to know, live, and breathe and to really reflect on why we do the things we do. A short, but great read.

Against the Gods: The Remarkable Story of Risk

This book has a great history on the whole concept of what ‘risk’ really is. So much of our world today is about risk management with our investments, homes, cars, safety, etc. and so much if it revolves around insurance which has not really been around that long. The book has a great perspective on how we come to define what risk really is and how we have evolved to reduce it.

The New Retirementality: Planning Your Life and Living Your Dreams….at Any Age You Want

If you are at or near retirement, this book is a must read. It discusses the concept of retirement and how you really define it: for some it’s the end of an era, for others its the start of a new career, while for others it may be a series of travel destinations. There is quite a paradigm shift to go from saving all of your life for retirement to actually spending and enjoying the savings you have built.

Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything (P.S.)
A quick read, but the perfect example of an ‘out of the box’ thinker. The conclusions and analysis the author comes to are unique, and they get you to think differently (my favorite type of book). Who knew an economist could be so entertaining?…
